Feature film

2000

CALLE 54

In this movie, Fernando Trueba writes a generous ode to his passion for Latin jazz; a passion which goes back in time and has shaped the director’s lifestyle for twenty years. Through a mosaic of twelve musical creations filmed in the Sony Music Studio of New York, Trueba mixes colours, rhythms and styles. To introduce each take, he tells with his own words and images the world the artists live in: Gato Barbieri’s oniric mind, the mural commented by Tito Puente who assembles in the same fictitious orchestra heroes of Latin jazz, Chico O'Farrill’s weekly session at the Birdland’s, New York, the discreet and deeply moving eye contact between the Cubans, Chuco Valdes and his father Bebo in exile in Stockholm.
